Kate Brown founded Boulder Organic Foods in 2006 on a mission to make soup better. Short on time to cook, Kate went to the grocery store to find some nourishing soup to feed her daughter. To her disappointment, Kate found that the soups she found contained mostly ingredients that were preservatives, artificial, colors, flavors and “enhancers.” Asking herself the question “What happened to real soup and why would it be so difficult to make something with just real food ingredients?” she decided to do something about it. She started making soup in her home kitchen to share with friends and family. Very quickly, a local Whole Foods buyer got wind of Kate’s yummy creations and from that point, there was no looking back.
Kate has stayed true to her mission of making soup better, committing from day one to using organic and gluten-free ingredients. She has also been dedicated to sustainability by composting, recycling, and using BPA-free plastics. From our cooks to our front office team, everyone here at Boulder Organic shares the drive to provide better food in the most delicious way possible. In the spirit of how we started, Boulder Organic soups are made in small-batches and stay fresh and delicious all the way to your fridge. We start with as many fresh, whole ingredients as we can. Every onion, potato, carrot, celery, clove of garlic, and leek, comes in fresh and whole. We clean, chop and prep each right here in Boulder every day for the next day’s small-batch soup cooking. We are so proud of every batch of fresh produce and are delighted to pass that freshness on to you!

Yes. All of our soups are certified gluten-free by the GFCO!
Yes, all of our soups are GMO-Free!
All of our soups are made in a facility free from gluten, wheat, egg, soy, peanuts, fish, shellfish, sesame, mustard, sulfites, and lupin. The only tree nut we process in our facility is coconut. Our Red Lentil Dahl Soup contains coconut milk, which is a tree nut. Our Roasted Tomato Basil Soup, Butternut Squash Soup with Sage, Autumn Squash Soup, Potato Corn Chowder, Broccoli Cheddar Soup and Potato Leek Soup contain dairy products and casein. We have a food safety plan to ensure that we do not have allergen cross contact in our facility. Some of these items include producing non-allergen soups first and swabbing. We recommend eating the soup within 3-4 days of opening.
While we never freeze our fresh soup, you can place unopened tubs in your freezer for up to six months.
Most of our soup varieties average 400-600mg per serving. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends limiting sodium intake to less than 2,300mg a day – or 1,500mg if you’re age 51 or older. Other companies use salt as a preservative, which is why most canned soup has very high sodium levels. We use salt in moderation as a spice.
The vast majority of the sugar content in our soups is naturally occurring within the fresh vegetables we use. We add sugar in very small quantities within our chicken and veggie bases. There is no more than 0.6 added grams of sugar per serving in any of our soup varieties. See here for more info.
No. We never use preservatives, artificial ingredients, or fillers.

Fresh soup simply tastes better and is often healthier than sodium-loaded canned soup. Canned soups can be several years old by the time you eat it, but our fresh soup is intended to be eaten within a few weeks of purchase. But who are we to say, try for yourself!
Yes. Our soup is prepared and stored fresh for maximum flavor and nutrition!
At most grocery stores our soup is available in the prepared foods aisle or the deli refrigerator where other fresh products are sold. Find a store near you!
Microwave: Empty entire tub into microwave safe bowl, heat on high for 2 minutes, stir well, and heat on high for one more minute.
Stove Top: Empty entire tub into saucepan, put on medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
No. None of our soup contains MSG or any of the following MSG imitators: autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed yeast extract, or soy protein.
